Protection of Powder Mills Park
This site is dedicated to protecting the natural woodlands and beauty of Powder Mills Park.
Let’s save a place for wildlife! The National Park service provides a model mission for parks: “promote and regulate the use of the parks...which purpose is to conserve the scenery and the natural and historic objects and the wild life therein and to provide for the enjoyment of the same in such manner… as will leave them unimpaired for the enjoyment of future generations." The quiet enjoyment of the park, for everyone, should be the guiding light for “progress”.
Monroe County will likely approve $85,000 for a Master Plan for Powder Mills Park in May. The park is a precious sanctuary--let’s save a place for wildlife! There is a strong lobby seeking to allow off-road bicyclists and the County seems to be very ready to OK the development of a dog park within Powder Mills - but have “no idea” where they would put it. Let’s find a better place for the dog park and enforce the PMP rules that we currently have: No dogs off leash, no bikes on trails and take your garbage home with you. If you agree, please complete the letter below to our representatives asking them to exclude these activities in our beautiful park.
